4th India Steel Summit

SteelGuru as official media partner is proud to present you the 4th India Steel Summit (Achievement & Unfinished Agenda) which is organized by ASSOCHAM at Hotel Le Meriden, New Delhi on August 11th 2010.

Indian steel industry has chartered recently a convincing growth path recording finished steel production level of over 60 MT in the year 2009-10. The success story of Indian steel industry is backed by all round excellent performance in terms of growth parameters and meeting fast and varying customer requirements in automobile, construction, capital goods and consumer durable segments. With ever increasing emphasis of the Government for infrastructure and inclusive growth, the steel Ministry has targeted 124 million tones a year domestic steel production capacity by the year 2012-13. With the projected growth of the economy and rising import dependence, investment in steel sector will flow only if Government provides a favorable regulatory environment in terms of fair and open land acquisition policies, environmental clearances, rehabilitation policies and quicker requisite approvals and mining lease. Steps are also being initiated for infusion of technologies that are capable of utilizing our non-coking coal reserves and iron ore fines, to bring down cost.

The year 2009 proved to be crucial in the way iron ore is priced. Traditional annual contracts are giving way to immensely volatile spot prices. Coking coal continue to be the main area of concern for the steel makers. With all the three major steel producers remaining dependent on external sources, substantially, the renegotiated prices of coking coal has shot up by more than fifty percent in recent time. In the backdrop of rising cost, steel consumption remains weak in developed economies. Back home the performance has remained robust mainly because of the strong and stable growth of the Indian economy. While the steel consuming sector including automobile and construction have shown good growth, the rural market remains a huge untapped potential for steel consumption. In view of the anticipated demand, though there are major activities relating to capacity addition in public sector steel plants, some of the private sector steel projects, both greenfield and brownfield are failing to take off the ground.

In the present context, ASSOCHAM with the support of Ministry of Steel, Government of India, is organizing the 4th India Steel Summit in New Delhi, which is a sequel to our earlier Steel Summits held in previous years. It is a part of an ongoing effort by ASSOCHAM to catalyze th
e developments of steel sector in the country.

SteelGuru as official media partner is proud to present Steel Mart 2010 which is organized by CII on September 10th and 11th 2010.

Through Steel Mart 2010, stakeholders aim to help Indian Steel Industry achieve its real potential and play a meaningful role in India’s development as also the event would help define the steps to be taken in this direction. The event would primarily serve as a platform for major stakeholders in Indian Steel industry to deliberate & determine a way forward for harnessing the true potential of steel sector in North India. The Inaugural Session would set the agenda for a productive one day event whereby focus would be on exploring the potential and emerging opportunities for the Indian Steel industry especially in North India.

The Indian steel industry has entered into a new development stage from 2005-06, riding high on the resurgent economy and rising demand for steel. It has been estimated that India’s steel consumption will continue to grow at nearly 16% annually till 2012. North India being a hub of SME units engaged in production of Hand tools, Bicycles, Auto Components, Machine Tools, Agricultural equipment & other light engineering products has traditionally been a big consumer of steel. However most of this demand has been met by secondary steel industry. With Spurt in demand from construction sector, and traditional light engineering sector revamping its product line to compete at the global level, special steel & stainless steel industry has also witnessed a considerable growth. The session would lay due focus on how demand & supply equation would prevail in fields of Secondary steel, pig Iron as also other forms of special steels especially for the Industry based in North India.

With sectors like automobiles, infrastructure, power and other steel consuming sectors experiencing healthy growth in India and new technologies & products being introduced in the market, the steel industry surely opens a plethora of opportunities provided competitive and sustainable practices are adopted. Bulk of the steel consumed in India is processed /machined by the SME sector and it is imperative that user’s perspective finds a platform at the conference. The session would focus on devising a strategy that can enable the SME sector engaged in steel businesses to contribute effectively to the value chain as also address their issues pertaining to availability of specific grades of special and carbon steels at competitive prices at the users end.

Due to technical and metallurgical innovations, environmental concerns and the inherent advantages of steel as a strong building material, Steel is fast replacing conventional materials like wood, bricks and concrete in a number of applications. Be it the modest bullock cart in the villages, sleepers on railway tracks, furniture or pre-fabricated structures in place of conventional buildings, steel is finding ever widening usages. The Session would have experts focus on steel as material for economic growth and educate the participants on the emerging trends in new usages of steel.

5th China International Steel Forum 2010

SteelGuru as official media partner is proud to present the 5th China International Steel Forum 2010 which is organized by Mysteel at the Rainbow Hotel, Shanghai, P R China on September 15-17, 2010.

The ups and downs of China’s steel sector ripple globally these days. The top global steelmaker exported 23.58 million tons of finished steel products in the first half of 2010, registering an astonishing jump of 152.3 percent over the last year. However, along with the all-year high trading figures, comes a disturbing combination of RMB revaluation, export rebate cut, slowdown in global recovery and rampant protectionisms, which, as most analysts believe, will bring harsh challenges to China’s steel exports in the second half of the year.

Rising to the challenges, China has vowed to promote economic restructuring through obsolete capacity elimination and industry-wide consolidation, once again demonstrating its resolve to rectify steel exports and steel industry at large.

This forum presents an unmissable opportunity for global delegates who wish to learn the firsthand developments in this economic restructuring campaign, and its influence over China’s steel trading. Is China going to give further curb to its steel exports? Will China’s steel exports continue to rise after domestic prices started to pick up in July? Answers to such intriguing questions can be found in insightful speeches given by senior Chinese government officials, analysts and industry elites from mills and traders alike.

Our four previous events, held in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 respectively, proved a successful series with the most recent one attracting some 400 delegates from home and abroad. Here delegates will be able to meet face-to-face with major Chinese steel mills and traders, who used to play hard-to-get but are now more anxious than ever to seek overseas partners. Other benefits from this annual event include:

Learn China government’s upcoming moves on steel export duties;
Gain experts' insights into China's steel sector;
Get familiar with the pattern of China’s steel exports;
Get a chance to promote your company image and display product mix to potential partners in the largest global steel market.

8th China Steel International Trade Summit 2010

SteelGuru as official media partner is proud to present you the 8th China Steel International Trade Summit 2010 which is organized by CBI China at Shanghai, China on Sept 19-21 2010.

China’s steel capacity has reached 700mmt in 2010, but the conflicts between supply and demand still exist. High raw material prices and low product prices are squeezing the profit margins of the steel industry. Meanwhile, to speed up the structural adjustment of exports and cope wit
h the rise of international trade protectionism, the government decides to cancel the export refund for 48 steel products as from 15 July, which means that China’s steel export will face a tough situation.

However, the demand of Chinese steel import and export market was strong in H1 2010, according to customs statistics.

In January to April the export volume of steel products was 13.02mmt, up 98.8% year on year. The export in April hit a new high after the financial crisis to 4.31mmt, up 29%MoM or doubled YoY. In April, the export volume of steel sheets was 2.8mmt, up nearly 500%; bars 430kt, up more than 300%; sections 250kt, up 200%.

We are convinced that the international steel demand will remain robust in H2 2010 and China will remain a major steel exporter. How will the withdrawing of steel export stimulus policy affect the steel export market in H2 2010? What changes will take place in the international steel, raw material and shipping markets?
